Jam results are here + v1.1
Hello there! The results for the latest Ludum Dare have been published, and here are the results for Pheasant Courier.
There were 491 compo participants. 65th in Overall and 77th in Fun are a bit of a disappointment, compared to my other games; that must be because of the spawn-kill boss bug + the way dialogue is unfolded, frustrating aspects of games are often represented in those categories.
As for Innovation (129th) and Theme (219th): yikes! With "Delivery", I thought there wasn't much room for innovation, maybe this is too safe a strategy for game ideas? Also I completely overlooked other uses of the delivery word because I didn't do the research English isn't my first language.
Now for the art categories: Graphics (10th) and Audio (14th). They kind of save the game here. I improved my pixel-art and music a bit, which must have helped.
Humor (16th) and Mood (22nd) aren't bad at all either. It's just a matter of finding the right lines of dialogue at this point.
So overall: this is not a bad game! But this is not an excellent one either. Maybe game making should stay as a passion and not become a job goal? :P
Version 1.1
I just released a new version, which fixes the most noticeable issues as well as some quality changes:
- Added an invincibility period of one second when you respawn
- Bosses recover 1 HP instead of 2 when you die
- Removed packages bouncing sound, this was too distracting
- Resized game window from 948x533 to 960x540 (much better on a 1080p screen)
- Revamped roof tiles
The original jam version is still on the Ludum Dare website; only the itch.io version will be up to date.
Also, I apologize for not rating as much Ludum Dare submissions as mine has been rated; my last few weeks have been a bit busy, and some submissions were Windows-only and/or already had enough ratings.
On that, see you on the next one!
